Reviews: 11x01 The Woman Who Fell On Earth [Doctor Who]
I’ve been wanting to write a post about the Doctor Who season premiere since the last scene faded into black.

As you might remember, I was not very thrilled about the choice. Well not for the choice itself - even if I didn’t really liked Jodie too much in Broadchurch - but because of the reaction of the fandom to the news of a female Doctor. Some screamed bloody murder, saying that they were done with the show, and some went the opposite way saying that it was something that made history... ahem... it’s a show... a Female President would have made history...

I felt like these people were implying that Doctor Who was a misogynist/sexist show before, when it has never been the case imho...

But I was excited... because a young female Doctor seemed the only possible direction to take... Doctor who evolved into a very dark show somehow... we needed something fresh, a Doctor that can smile and be happy... a positive spin! And Jodie is the right face for it!

[THIS article says it better that I could ever say it]

After 10 minutes of her appearing into my screen I knew SHE WAS THE DOCTOR! She is perfect for the role... I really like her energy and I didn’t feel like she was over acting like she did (imho) in Broadchurch!

I really enjoyed the episode as well even though Grace/Nan’s death was pretty obvious... she was not the kind of woman that stays home, waiting for her husband and grandchild to come back from their adventures in time and space... she was the sort of person who wants to live it! A brave and smart woman! A perfect companion...

When I saw the pod and the ball of wires I thought that they were parts of the TARDIS went insane for a moment after the explosion, trying to get itself together and that the Doctor had to help it... that would have been quite interesting to watch, instead we had Tim Shaw and his teeth collection... I guess he served the purpose of creating the team.

I like the new screwdriver but I hope she’s not going to really call it Swiss knife... I found quite odd that she was able to create it outside of the TARDIS without special material... who knows if it will work on wood this one LOL!

I like the companions! Great choice, I think it’s going to be interesting seeing them interact... especially since they know each other, but not that much...

I was very excited at the idea to see the new TARDIS and I did not expect that ending... I guess we’ll see it next week!!!

Overall I am pretty happy with everything. Really enjoyed the writing. Some quotes were surprisingly good! I am finally excited again about the show... I was not a Moffat’s Fan... I really disliked his attitude in general and I think he was more interested to show how brilliant he was than write a good show! I can’t wait for next week! Welcome back Doctor!

and some went the opposite way saying that it was something that made history... ahem... it’s a show... a Female President would have made history...

It would've made television history, for a show that had all male Doctors throughout its entire run since the 60s, having the first woman Doctor would've been revolutionary in switching it up and breaking that mold especially since the idea had been totted around for a long time but always shot down. It's like finally having Asian-led Hollywood-funded films, yes they're just films, but it's about the representation and the ability to have such things available. The show wasn't sexist (depending on the writer/showrunner you're talking about, granted) but the way particular people talked/complained about the possibility of a woman becoming the Doctor certainly was.

I hated the way the fandom was divided and some of the reactions, I agree, though honestly? I didn't care. I was never that deep in the fandom anyway so it didn't matter to me other people's opinions. This was a fresh start (new showrunner, new Doctor, new theme, new writers, new everything) so I was optimistic that this would be just starting anew anyway, since I already kinda have a love/hate relationship with Doctor Who since I started watching it.

And I'm so delighted by Thirteen! Jodie Whittaker is absolutely the Doctor, from her mannerisms and energy to the outfit she choose for herself, which looks adorable on her. Hell, I adore her accent (which is Jodie's actual accent, it's so cute), which makes me all nostalgic for Nine. Most of what we've seen of Thirteen had bits of Nine's vibe, I think, which made me very happy. :) I'm so very pleased. I mean, I was already enamored with her from the previews and such, but actually seeing her in action really sold me on her completely. I can't wait to see where this season is going to go with her and her new Companions. And honestly, it feels good being excited for Doctor Who, again.

Plus, the fact that the premiere hit a new ratings high for the series says something, as well. ;)

A brave and smart woman! A perfect companion...

I know, right?! She was gone far too soon...

It felt like a family show again and even if I didn't think the episode was mind-blowing, it did everything I wanted it to. And while it had some creepy moments, I think it felt like a show that a whole family could watch and like and it was light enough where it needed to be. Looking forward to seeing the rest of the season. :)

She felt like The Doctor to me too, right away really. I love her engergy.

It was a good start and I look forward to getting to know them all better and explore parts of time and space.

I wholeheartedly agree! I was hesitant too but she was so good!

Tim Shaw, not the best villain hehe.

I really hope we get the TARDIS back. What's the Doctor without a TARDIS?!

I'm really looking forward to more too. I'm so glad it's back.

I agree, in the past I hadn’t been sure about the Doctor changing sex after being consistently male for twelve regenerations, but then I ended up absolutely loving Jodie as the Doctor, ironically I’d say that she actually ended up finding her feet in the role faster than any of the previous doctors (from modern DW anyway)

Probably going to be a bit before I get to it, but I'm so pleased to see all the positive reviews. :)
